Hitachi 729404 5/8-Inch Diamond Core Bit

Hitachi 729404 5/8-Inch Diamond Core Bit

Good drill, inaccurate size description

The Hitachi diamond drill is easy to use and is effective; I used it easily on porcelain tiles. The problem is: I bought a "5/8, 15 mm" drill. The "15 mm" was in fine print. This is a 15 mm drill bit, NOT a 5/8" drill bit. My calipers say that it will only make a 0.588" hole, which would be about right for 15 mm (15mm equals 0.594"). The difference compared to a true 5/8" drill bit of slightly more than 1/32" is significant - porcelain is a very unforgiving material. My experience proved my calipers to be correct, and that this is a 15 mm. drill bit "rounded" to 5/8". After using the "5/8" drill" to bore through the tile, I could not use my 5/8" concrete drill bits to finish the hole in the concrete block wall behind the tile without chipping and breaking the tile. In addition, nothing with a diameter of 5/8" would come close to going through the hole. The completion of the project required a lot of "freehand" enlarging of the hole, with very mixed success. All in all, a disappointing outcome for an otherwise good product.

Drill Doctor DD300 3/32-Inch to 1/2-Inch Drill Bit Sharpener

Drill Doctor DD300 3/32-Inch to 1/2-Inch Drill Bit Sharpener

HIT AND MISS

SOME TIMES IT SHARPENED BITS AND SOMETIMES IT DID NOT. DO NOT EXPECT THE BITS TO WORK VERY WELL ON METAL, OKAY FOR WOOD PROJECTS. SMALL BITS REALLY DO NOT SHARPEN. A BIT CAN BE SHARPENED ABOUT THREE TIMES, SO IT DOES BEAT GOING TO THE STORE OVER AND OVER.

Paid for itself

Not as easy to use or as quick as I had hoped but still well worth the money if you drill lots of holes! It is a pleasure to sharpen a drill just before using on a jobsite and getting a first class hole drilled in quick time. We keep this on the jobsite every day.

As advertised

This Drill Doctor is a great instrument. It does an excellent job, as advertised. I would highly recommend it.

Skeptical at first

I work at Sears selling tools and with all the gimicy tools that are out there, I was skeptical of the Drill Doctor, until I tried it. It takes about 30 minutes to really get the hang of it, but after that, it is wonderful. I was drilling through ratchet handles to make a display. I had taken a brand new cobalt bit off the shelf and dulled it after 2 1/2 ratchet handles. I pulled out the Drill Doctor as a joke. But the joke was on me. After about 5 minutes of figuring out how it works, I was able to finish the next three ratchet handles after sharpening the bit. I have done tool demonstrations at Sears with the Drill Doctor. I have taken drill bits, ground them down on a grinder so they wouldn't drill into Jello, then sharpen them and go through 1/8 steel without a problem. I must have sharpened nearly a thousand drill bits at Sears and the unit is still working. The price is a little steep, but you won't need to buy drill bits again.

A Drill Bit's Best Friend

I purchased a Drill Doctor drill bit sharpener a couple of years ago, and I've been really impressed with this machine. I don't do alot of drilling, but I do enough to wear down a few drill bits and even snap a few. I did have one of those crappy drill powered bit sharpeners, but unless a bit wasn't cutting at all I wouldn't dare put it on that thing - it would dull more than sharpen most of the time. I know that a sharper cutting tool works faster, cuts cleaner, and is all around a safer tool to work with. Drill bits are no different. I saw this unit at the local home improvement store, and decided to take a gamble since I had never heard of Drill Doctor before. The drill doctor is so easy to work with. My unit came with a detailed video that quickly showed me all there was to operating this simple machine. Pop the bit in the special chuck, align & adjustment is easy & virtually automatic. Then turn the unit on and turn the chuck in the sharpening hole. Literally in a couple of minutes I had sharpened my first bit. Next challenge was to see what it would do with a broken off bit. I selected a 1/8" bit broken at a steep angle. I had to run it through for a few minutes, readjust the chuck a few times after I'd ground it down some and it wouldn't cut anymore, but in the end I recovered a bit that was completely useless. In my shop it will be a little while before this unit pays for itself in bit replacements, but I think it's already paid for itself in precision drilling and avoided frustration! One note, if I were getting a Drill Doctor today I would probably look at the DD500 or DD750 units. They can sharpen bits at 135º in addition to the 118º standard cut, but you can sharpen any bit to the 118º angle without problem.

good for the price

the price is right and they seem to work ok. The case is heavy duty but not made to good but for the price a great deal.

Good bang for the buck!

115 drill bits in a case for 10 bucks? How could you go wrong?!?!?!! I got exactly what I expected. I haven't used the drills for any heavy duty metal work yet, but they hold up fine for the wood working I've done with them. I'm not expecting superb metal cutting performance, but I didn't pay 100 bucks, either.

Great bits

I use this bits on a 1619 bosch plunging router. The have been outstanding. You can forget the need for sanding, these leave a planer like finish. The instructions are pretty much useless but hey it's just changing bearings. The only way i could possible think to make these better would be to stamp the size on the bears. I haven't ruined a cut yet and if god help me i hit a nail tomorrow.I would buy them again. These were my first whiteside bits and I'm going back for more.

5 DIAMOND DUST HOLE SAW for TILE GLASS MARBLE HOLESAW 3/4", 1", 1-3/16", 1-3/8", 1-5/8"

Do the job, fast

I used these hole saws on vitreous china. The job was done neatly and quickly. I had started with a carbide grit hole saw, but, after hours of slow progress, decided to purchase these. The diamond dust hole saw took only minutes to complete the job. The carbide saw showed obvious signs of wear. The diamond dust saw looked as good as when I unpackaged it. You might note the lack of a pilot bit and wonder how to center your hole. I used a small piece of plywood into which I had cut a hole to the size of the diamond dust hole saw I was going to use. I centered my template and secured it with duct tape. Once the hole was started, I was able to remove the template and continue. Keep a spray bottle of water handy and frequently squirt the saw and material to keep it cool and lubricated.

Thumbs up

Great product at the price. I've only tried one of the bits so far but, it worked flawlessly.

Excellent quality and reliability

I own many Woodline router bit sets, including this one, and every one of them has been very impressive with no exception. The bits are very well made with perfect carbide edges and never a scratch on any of them. They can cut all day without a problem. The cuts are always very smooth even when cuts are very aggressive using the larger bits. The bits have a lifetime warranty which is an indicator of the faith Woodline has in their own product. Woodline's customer service was very helpful and courteous in the one occasion when I contacted them about a different product.

Freud 99-051 1-11/32-Inch Window Sash Stile Router Bit

9:55 AM เขียนโดย gray.any1744

Freud 99-051 1-11/32-Inch Window Sash Stile Router Bit

Not so much a review of the router bit but a review of the other review

So I just bought a house in NE DC that I am renovating. Lots of work. Every last thing in the place is a disaster that needs attention. So I am focusing on the building envelope, a part of which are the windows. My sashes are so entirely screwed that I originally assumed that I would have to eventualy buy all new windows. Problem. All of the windows are non standard sizes. Another problem, I don't have the money to buy all new windows. So while trying to repair a window I broke a pane and replaced the sash with an piece of an old door. It looks great from the street. About one step above plywood on the scale of ghetto to fabulous (do not confuse with the "ghetto fabulous" scale, it measures something completley different). So in my research on how to build a sash, I came across some instructions, and router bit sets. I got the 13 piece Freud set a few weeks ago, so came back to check out if Amazon had a sash set by freud. Needles to say I found the set, and read the review that R. Feeser wrote. After reading that review, I got so excited about building my own windows I just about wet myself. That was yesterday. Today I am still freaking excited. If I wasn't so cheap, and didn't allways use the supersaver shipping, I'd be rushing home to start pumping out window sashes. So thank you R. Feeser! Your review was so freaking awesome I wan't to wet my pants all over again!!!

Don't buy windows, make them

This Freud 99-051 and 050 work as a set to give you complete sash making capabilities. My woodworking buying of equipment went into overdrive when I went into my local home center and saw how expensive it would be to replace the windows in my house. This Freud bit combination is making my intentions realizable. I made my first window sash and am ecstatic over how professional it looks. Each sash is the standard 1 3/8" thick, and has true divided light (French door style sash bars, and mullions) All done by using these two bits.
I must admit the instructions that come with the Freud bits leaves you a little dizzy. They eliminated all hand holding, and went into mechanical-arithmetic formulas for getting the job done. Then I discovered the CMT USA bit manufacturing instructions that are available at the CMTUSA.com web site under "How To" It is a lot more intuitive, whereas they give you step by step instructions. The thing about the CMT set is they are based on 5/8" of an inch spacing on one side, and 1/2" on the other. That makes for a lot of adjustment in doing the different stages. This Freud bit set, which is similar to the CMT in every way, except one. They are 9/16" on both sides, with 1/4" tongue area in the center.
You could make a casement sash with these bits, and simply build a frame to mount it in, and include the necessary configuring to allow for handles and opening mechanisms. That and a little weather-strip and you're set. This bit set also makes twin sashes for your standard double hungs. I bought a book here at Amazon called Windows and Skylights, and it went into a lot about making different style windows. Not about how to buy them, but about how to build them. Highly recommended book, listing suppliers of hardware, and the ins and outs of insulation properties of different styles. In that book the author states that using vinyl jamb liners with built in springs are preferred, and will save you a lot of time.
What I am actually going to do, is buy Honduras Mahogany, and make beautiful windows. I am looking for a good supplier of high quality solid polished brass for the locks and hardware. I could go on for hours, but this is supposed to be a review of the Freud bits, and it is.
These bits are not cheap, but if you plan on building lots of windows, and may possibly need to build more than one set, their strong carbide, and balanced, no vibration cut, will give you the quality you are looking for. It is nice to not have to sand the edges at all, or at least not very much, when they are as highly figured as these edges are.
The local largest window showroom has suggested that I carry a sample of the Mahogany creations in their showroom. I'm honored, and plan on doing that once I am confident in my own houses creations. Once you see what the truth is about the lack of true insulation properties of the common vinyl window, you will all the more want solid wood windows. Combining the insulating properties of solid wood, with the natural weather resistance of mahogany, and you have a combination that is hard to beat. I am leaning toward the single glass, and then doubling that on the inside with a removable storm panel, and tripling it with an exterior storm window. (That is a popular Pella design)
What is significantly different is with typical "insulated glass" windows, you have a vinyl shell, which conducts cold instead of insulating, and then passes that cold through the aluminum wedge that is sealed between the glass, which also transmits cold readily, on through to the inner glass, which is cold on the outer areas, and only warm on the inside center. Consequently the major window testing association, using a rating system that measures both the center of the glass on the inside, and the outside edges, and averages them. With your own wood windows, you eliminate that. In addition to Mahogany's natural wear properties (Decks are built from it without any finish put on it whatsoever) You have to look into Sikkens line of semi clear finishes. I coated my Cedar Addition with it five years ago and it looks as new right now as it did when I first applied it. It is expensive, but worth every dime.
Anyhow, get the Freud bit set, turn out your first sash, and get excited about the possibilities.

Needs More Documentation

I bought this to up grade my old pocket hole jig (#2000 I think) but this doesn't fit the old jig. You have to buy the new guide block to use this. I ended up buying the guide block and like this jig so much better than the old model. It is faster to use (clamping handle is on the front & holes are beveled so it's easier to get the drill bit in there).I really like the dust collection feature too. Bits don't fill up with dust and jam, so they stay cooler. If I had to do it over I would just get a whole new kit.

DEWALT DW6613-1/4-Inch Carbide Burr Bit

Great at first but dulls quickly

I went through two of these to cut eight 14" x 6" holes in my 1950's era home for HVAC vents and *barely* made it. The edge dulls quickly when cutting a mix of thick drywall/plaster. A repeated 'plunging/sawing' action was required to get it to cut effectively. It did make a tough job easy but be prepared to buy a few to get the job done. All spiral saws are sacrifical in nature and will lose their edge quick so no surprises here. Three star rating due to misleading description about long life.

Wow-- its sharp, hard, and cuts like a mad man

Dewalt made a really nice piece here. I always buy carbide 7 1/4 blades for my saw because they slice through flooring like a hot knife through butter. Put this into the dewalt 18V cutter and off you go, no matter what the material. Carbide holds its edge for years and is a great investment. Compared to the spiralsaws this is alot less likely to break and can handle dental stone without a problem.

I'm using this spade with a Makita 70lbs. verical break hammer and the combination is just a monster. You really want to find clay or decomposed granite with the tool. I've been digging trenches for stackable block walls and this tool is a real time saver. Worth every penny. I bought the Bosch spade because I could not find the like Makita. Gets a little heavy but you get used to it.

Clay spade/Looks good.

This clay spade looks very substantial. I haven't had a chance to dig with it yet, but it looks like it will be up to the task. It fits very well into the chuck of my driving machine. When I'm ready, it's ready.

A Spade for a KING

Having owned many spades in my life I can safely say this one is the greyest one that I've had. Usually I go for the green ones, but this one goes really well with my new Widescreen TV. Other than the colour being really nice I found the spade action on this baby really satisfying. Digging holes with this beauty really is a sensual experience. If your in any doubt buy it. Well I liked it.

Freud 99-268 2 Piece Entry & Interior Door Router Bit System 1-3/4" & 1-3/8" Doors, Ogee Style, 1/2" Shank With TiCo Hi-Density Carbide

Freud 99-268 2 Piece Entry & Interior Door Router Bit System 1-3/4" & 1-3/8" Doors, Ogee Style, 1/2" Shank With TiCo Hi-Density Carbide

Glassy smooth cuts, incomplete instructions

I bought these to make a bathroom door of CVG Douglas Fir. My only complaint is that the instructions don't make it clear where the shims go when you change the bits from exterior door (1 3/4")mode to interior door (1 3/8") mode. Building a door is quite a project and this bit set handles the task very well. Freud gives you a large flow chart and a DVD video of a couple of good ol' boys building a door, which except for the shim problem really helps to understand the process.

Blum Ecodrill Hinge Jig With Bit & Driver

Great tool - too expensive

This is a very accurate easy to use tool that works perfectly as a part of the "Blum" system. It really does make installing hinges easy. However it seems very expensive - I looked all over for a similar tool but did not find anything - I guess they charge as a monopoly

Rotozip XB-MC1 Metal Cutting XBIT

Rotozip XB-MC1 Metal Cutting XBIT

NOT CARBIDE!

The Rotozip website specifies that this bit is made of high-speed steel, not carbide! I called Rotozip and they verified that it is indeed high-speed steel. Amazon should correct the advertising.

cuts aluminum, but not as well as you'd think

I bought the Metal-Cutting XBit to freehand cutting in 0.125" sheet aluminum and found it workable, but barely. The bit could not penetrate the plate to start a cut in the middle of the sheet, requring me to start every cut with a power drill instead. After less than an inch of travel, the bit was clogged with melted aluminum chips. After cleaning the bit with an icepick, I sprayed the surface of the aluminum with WD-40 for cooling and lubrication. By spraying the work area regularly, I was able avoid clogging the bit for several hours of subsequent use.

Grizzly H7694 Master Forstner Bit 31 pc. Set

Grizzly H7694 Master Forstner Bit 31 pc. Set

Good buy in Forstner Bits

The Forstner bits from Grizzly were rated as a best buy by Wood Magazine. I am very pleased with them. I have only used a couple of them, and they did what they are supposed to do. Perfect for furniture building and general woodwork.

Great set for the money

I bought this set after it was recommended in one of my magazines as a top value tool. Honestly, I have not owned any forstner bits before, so I have nothing to compare them with. I am quite pleased with them so far. I've used several of the bits, including the largest in the set, a couple of the smallest, and a few in the middle. Most of the work I've done with them has been in hard maple or MDF. They all cut a very nice clean hole, don't burn, and push the removed material out of the way well. I did have the same issue that someone else mentioned where the cardboard outer sleeve was stuck to the wooden case. Overall, I recommend these, especially if you're like me and needed a decent set to get started.

Grizzly Forstner Bits

Bits are well made and are shipped in a attractive box. The bits perform well in both hard wood and soft wood. Good value for the money.

Not the best, but very good.

The bits came in a relatively nice wooden box and the outer cardboard box was stuck to that as if the finish on the inner wooden box had not fully dried before it was put into the cardboard box and so left a bit of torn cardboard pieces stuck to the box after peeling the cardboard off. This is only a minor strike against this product, as I would imagine that this could have been a fluke. Each of the bits has a soft plastic cover that protects the business end of the bit and that is a nice touch for keeping them in good condition over the long term. Each bit has a hex shaft for a better grip in your drill's chuck and each one comes marked with its size and proper turning speed. These bits aren't super precise or super sharp like some WAY more expensive brands, but they are good enough for almost everything you might need them for, and it's not easy to find an affordable set, like this one, that has 31 bits in 1/16 inch increments. After receiving these bits and using them for a few weeks on some minor projects, I think I can recommend them as a great buy. I don't know how long they will last but at the price I paid and the variety of sizes, it seems to me that this is a pretty good deal.

Unbelievable for the price.

I set my expectations pretty low with this set. However I have been pleasantly surprised. I have owned it for 6 months now, and I have yet to be dissapointed. If I do manage to wear one out, I'll replace it with a higher quality bit. But this is a great way to start out. Should be most any bit I'll need for awhile.

Hitachi 728119 Quick Change 20 Piece Drilling and Driving Set

Hitachi 728119 Quick Change 20 Piece Drilling and Driving Set

not bad for the price

I've used these for a while now. I've has 2 of the drill bits break, but I did use them for a little while. The quick change is great, makes things get done a little quicker. I like the case, keeps things organized.

Most Common Items & Nice Case

These are good quality bits and holders - all the most common items put together in a medium thickness plastic case.

Hitachi Drill

The Hitachi drill works excellently. The belt holder is a little cumbersome, but minimal. It is nice to have two batteries, so we can keep on working.

Nice set

The only complaint I have with this set (and it's a minor one), is that I can NOT get the case closed - as in fully snapped shut again. I have fiddled around with the bits repeatedly, but the case may never snap shut again. Why not make the case 1/8" bigger so it can be shut? That aside, the drill bits are of average made-in-china quality. I snapped off two bits within days of purchasing this set. Nowadays, when I have serious drilling to do, I pull out the 3/8" B&D drill and get some real bits. But for around the house, Harriet Homeowner stuff, this 20-piece quick change set is probably a good deal. Just don't expect it to hold up under heavy use.

Pretty good for the price-

Pretty good for the price. The quick change bits are not that stable.

Milwaukee 48-89-1110 14 Piece Black & Bronze Drill Bit Set

Decent bits

I wont say these are the best drill bits in the world, but they are good and get the job done. I have found another brand of bits that are perhaps a little better and somewhat cheaper, but this set makes a nice addition to my collection, and the carry case is well made and offers great protection to the bits and easy bit storage.

RotoZip DC1 Duracut Bit Pack

RotoZip DC1 Duracut Bit Pack

GREAT TO CONCEAL SPEAKWIRE

I used this to route a trough up my wall to conceal speak wire to my home theater speakers. It worked like a charm!!! My house is 1955 with plaster/mortar walls. I also used the dust extractor adapter - What a charm ABSOLUTELY NO DUST!!! If you have a Rotozip and a dust problem you need the dust extractor!!!

Works quite well in concrete board

I bought this bit at home depot for $8 and used it to cut 4 sheets of hardebacker board into a circle for an outdoor mosaic table substrate, using a 3 1/4 hp router and trammel arm. The bit worked quite well, athough I noticed I had to get the RPMs up on the variable speed router to get it to cut easily. I doubt using this bit in a lower powered roto zip could've produced the same results. Perhaps the folks who don't like this bit should retry it in a router.

DuraCut Bit OK for soft to medium-hard materials

RotoZip DC1 Duracut Bit Pros: - 1/4" bits have significantly greater resistance to breaking than 1/8" bits. It's still possible to snap one, but you have to use much more force. If you are frustrated with how easy it is to snap 1/8" bits, and your application will be OK with a 1/4" bit, try one of these. (Of course, the tool will need a 1/4" collet.) - Carbide cutters last much longer than tool steel. - Works quite well on soft materials, such as most wood, plastics, and drywall. Has an excellent life if used only on softer materials. They work best at very high speed. I.e., instead of a drill, try them in a router or high-speed rotary cutter. Cons: - As with any such bit, when the material gets harder, it becomes less effective -- to useless. E.g., using it on hard products will dull the bit in a hurry. E.g., porcelain or other hard tiles, concrete products such as blocks, bricks, concrete stucco (in spite of their sales pitch), glass, steel, etc. They work pretty well on some tile backer-boards, but this wears them out faster. Other: Cutting some materials, such as drywall, creates lots of dust. I use a respirator.

Cut what I wanted it to cut

I have a 1940's home and bought this bit to cut the top of my living room wall's perimeter, just below the curve at the coved cieling because the walls are shot and need to be redone. My walls consist of 1/2 inch drywall with 1/4 + inch mortar, and 1/16 plaster and about 10 coats of paint. It's a DUSTY job, but the bit did it without a problem. I was just praying not to hit one of the drywall nails. For the home user, the tool is great and serves its purpose.

Great for plaster/buttonboard remodeling

I am a remodeler and cutting plaster/buttonboard in older houses can be tough. I got only one hole cut for a six 6" can lights before my Greenlee hole saw was ruined. This bit in my Rotozip cut the last five and plenty of holes in the walls for outlets and for pulling wire (unlike a regular electrician I have to patch my holes so a square cut is worth it) . It did take a couple bits (you can see the "teeth" getting worn down) and near the end of a bit's life, you get more cutting by working the bit in and out. It's a dusty job and you should wear more than a cheap dust mask. I also found a full face shield worked much better than goggles.
I have been trying to buy some more of these bits at Home Depot (couldn't wait for a Amazon order) but the clerk told me that Bosch had just bought out Rotozip and that it would be a while before new bits came in under the Bosch name(?)
$10/bit is expensive but they get the job done.
